Blue Monday: The Rewrite

Tips from the AKT team.

Curtain up on a new year. Decorations all packed up from the holiday season, you keep busy watering plants, catching up on work, budgeting after December’s splurges. In the background, a clock ticks slowly; every minute feels like hours, and your body moves in slow motions through long, grey days. New Year’s resolutions have fizzled out, and the cold outside makes you want to hibernate inside the house (forever). When, all of a sudden, the light shifts to blue…

Enter: Blue Monday.

Everywhere you turn, there’s a reminder of how you’re supposed to feel — notifications, ads, billboards… Cue playlists of mellow tunes, a smoothie packed with silver-bullet vitamins, and the promise that your blues can be fixed with just one sip. It's a lot, isn’t it?

Here at AKT, we love a rewrite.. What if Blue Monday wasn’t about succumbing to the gloom, but about embracing the moment, and finding joy in the everyday? After all, even the smallest acts of self-care can be transformative.

To get things rolling, we asked around at AKT HQ and the team gave us some of their own pearls of wisdom for beating the January blues. So, cue the lights! And welcome to the stage our fabulous, hardworking, electrifying AKT team!

LIZZIE: OPS & SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGER

“I plan all my holidays in January so I have things to excite me and to look forward to for the rest of the year. I also journal first thing in the morning and before bed so even if I’m having a boring or quiet day, I appreciate the little things.”

AARON: FRONT OF HOUSE MANAGER

“I find movement first thing. That could be going to a fitness class, a run or even ten push ups or squats. Getting the body ready knowing it’s time to wake up and tackle whatever the day has in store.

Don’t put pressure on yourself. January always brings a sense of pressure where we’re surrounded by everyone saying ‘you should be doing this or achieving this’. We all move through our lives at our own pace, so ride your journey and don’t get swamped in other peoples’.

JOELLE: PARTNERSHIPS EXECUTIVE

“I try and get outside for a walk first thing, so whatever the weather brings, I’ve had some fresh air! Lean into the hibernation of it all - it doesn’t have to feel lonely. You can start a new hobby or book and romanticise the solitary nature of the month.”

JEN: CHIEF OF STAFF

“I spend the first hour of my morning spooning my dog before I get out of bed to start my day."

LOU: BRAND CAMPAIGN MANAGER

“I try to stay consistent all year round, but of course, I get back into my usual routine after the holiday break. I exercise a lot and try to keep it diverse, not just going to the gym. Boxing, dancing, or anything that gets me moving and helps me forget about adult life for a moment! Eating well is also so important. They say, "You are what you eat," but I make sure to still indulge myself too.

Then, spending time with myself is just as crucial. Whether it’s writing, creating videos, reading, or being with friends, these are the things that keep me going. Consistency really is key!

It’s all about finding what feels right for you and what truly makes you happy, then sticking to it. Setting goals to take care of yourself and putting yourself first can be hard, but you’re the main character in your life, so go for it!”

BEAT THE BLUES

Whether it’s journaling, moving your body, or finding joy in the quiet moments, remember: Blue Monday doesn’t have to be blue at all. With a little care and creativity, it can be a day of discovery, optimism, and even delight!

At AKT, we also believe in the power of backstage rituals — not just for maintaining a good routine but as essential moments of self-care and wellness. That’s why we’ve created our “Beat the Blues Set,” featuring The Deodorant Balm in SC.03, The Onsen, along with The Applicator.

Indulge in a soothing massage while enveloping yourself in our most tranquil scent — turning Blue Monday into your own version of Zen Monday.

After all, every day is an opportunity to rehearse and rewrite the life you want to live.
